Dave Sperandio, or “dio” as he is sometimes called, is the founder of and senior mastering engineer at Vocal Mastering, and has been working with a cappella music for more than 20 years as a performer, producer, and promoter. His work has helped to define and support the contemporary a cappella world for more than a decade.
Since founding the a cappella production company diovoce in 2000, his clients have appeared on numerous “best-of” compilations, including over 100 appearances on the BOCA, CAMO, Voices Only, and ‘Sing’ series. Dave’s work has received numerous Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, both as a performer and while “behind the glass”. He has been called the “Timbaland of a cappella” in the Gotham-published aca-documentary “Pitch Perfect” (now a major motion picture), and has appeared in interviews with Mouth Off!, Acatribe, CASA, and the Wall Street Journal.
Dave was a founding member of transit and vocal tonic, directed the UNC Clef Hangers, and has toured and recorded with Almost Recess and other ensembles. His work has afforded him the opportunity to work with many talented recording artists, including Ben Folds, Brendan James, Pentatonix, and Anoop Desai.
In 2006, Dave partnered with fellow producers Ed Boyer, James Cannon, James Gammon, and Tat Tong to form VocalSource, which represented the most comprehensive network of vocal music producers and studios in the world.
In 2008, Dave merged the AACI with CASA and joined CASA’s Board as Director of Events, managing SoJam and adding LA/AF, VoCALnation, SMA
In 2011, after years of being asked to master more and more projects for both other producers and independent artists while at diovoce, Dave officially formed Vocal Mastering: the world’s only dedicated mastering facility tailored specifically to the unique and exacting needs of vocal music. Dave’s mastering work can be heard on nearly every “best of” a cappella compilation in the world.
